Elisa Myers, Certified Doula
Elisa offers labor doula services to meet the needs of every client. She travels up to 90 minutes from Lexington, VA to any birth center, hospital, or home birth to provide continuous labor support and advocacy.
-
Elisa is a calm, knowledgeable, and compassionate birth sister who walks beside you throughout labor—providing continuous physical, emotional, and educational support while your midwife focuses on the medical care of you and your baby. Unlike nurses or providers who may need to care for multiple patients or perform clinical tasks, Elisa is dedicated solely to supporting you and your family throughout your birth experience. Continuous labor support from a doula has been associated with improved birth experiences and lower rates of certain interventions and c-section.
Elisa is committed to helping you feel safe, confident, and cared for from the earliest stages of labor until after your baby is in your arms.
-
Elisa helps you prepare for birth by providing a home visit between 32-36 weeks that covers:
Getting to know your birth preferences and goals
Answering questions about the labor process
Helping you and your partner feel prepared and confident
Discussing comfort measures and coping techniques
Being available by phone or text as labor begins
-
Once labor starts, Elisa provides continuous one-on-one support by:
Encouraging you through each stage of labor
Guiding breathing and relaxation techniques
Offering massage, counter-pressure, hip squeezes, and comfort touch
Assisting with position changes to encourage labor progress and comfort
Supporting movement and the use of the birth tub, birth ball, peanut ball, shower, or other comfort measures
Helping you stay nourished and hydrated
Creating a peaceful, reassuring environment
Helping your partner feel confident and involved by suggesting ways they can support you
Offering encouragement when labor becomes physically and emotionally challenging
Helping you communicate your preferences and questions to your midwife, while never making medical decisions or speaking on your behalf
-
Elisa continues to care for your family by:
Celebrating those first precious moments
Supporting immediate skin-to-skin bonding
Assisting with the first breastfeeding session, if desired
Helping create a calm transition into the postpartum period
Remaining with you until your family is settled and comfortable
-
Elisa is not a medical provider and does not:
Perform cervical exams
Monitor the baby's heart rate or maternal vital signs
Diagnose medical conditions
Make clinical decisions
Deliver your baby
Replace your midwife or physician
Instead, she works alongside your midwife or doctor as part of your birth team, ensuring you receive continuous emotional and physical support while your provider gives expert medical care. This complementary relationship allows you to benefit from both personalized support and skilled clinical care.
The Genesis Difference
At The Genesis Resort for Birth, Elisa embraces our mission of providing peaceful, personalized, family-centered care. She believes birth is more than a medical event—it's a sacred life experience. Whether your labor is fast or long, quiet or intense, Elisa remains a steady, encouraging presence, helping you feel empowered, respected, and deeply supported every step of the way.
Our promise is simple: You will never labor alone. From your first contraction to your baby's first cry, Elisa is there to provide unwavering support so you can focus on welcoming your child with confidence, peace, and joy.
“My calling to support women through pregnancy and birth began with my own motherhood story.
Before welcoming my babies into the world, I experienced the loss of a miscarriage, followed by the premature birth of my firstborn. During that labor, I felt unheard and unsupported, which left me carrying fear, anxiety, and a lack of confidence as I entered motherhood. Yet those experiences also sparked a deep awe for God's design of the female body and a passion for learning everything I could about pregnancy and physiological birth. With the support of my doula, I later experienced a redemptive homebirth, catching my baby in the water, followed by a gentle and deeply supported cesarean birth. I truly believe these diverse birth experiences were part of God's plan, teaching me humility, deepening my respect for every birth story, and giving me a broader understanding of the emotions, challenges, and decisions mothers face. They are what inspire my calling to be a steady, loving presence, a sister in birth, for other women.
As your doula and birth sister, I want you to feel heard, loved, and supported through this sacred time. Beyond physical support, I help carry some of the mental and emotional load that can come with preparing for birth such as navigating decisions, processing fears, building confidence, and entering postpartum knowing how incredibly intuitive and capable you are to be exactly the mother that baby needs.
Whether you need an advocate, a guide, a listening ear, a healing hand or simply a sister by your side, I would be honored to walk this journey with you.”
