Breastfeeding support

Empowering you towards nursing with confidence.

At our birth center, we believe breastfeeding is a natural extension of the birthing journey—and we’re here to support you every step of the way. From your first latch to navigating challenges, our compassionate team offers expert, personalized guidance tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Whether you’re preparing during pregnancy, just beginning your breastfeeding journey, or seeking help postpartum, we provide evidence-based support in a nurturing, judgment-free space. Our lactation care includes one-on-one consultations, troubleshooting common concerns, and helping you build confidence in your body’s ability to meet the needs of your baby.

You were made for this—and we’re here to make sure you feel supported, encouraged, and empowered as you feed your baby with love. Our lactation services are available to anyone in the community, whether you’ve given birth with us, or somewhere else.

How we can help

    • Assess and guide moms on how to position baby at the breast.

    • Help achieve a deep, comfortable latch to prevent pain and maximize milk transfer.

    • Support moms with low milk supply (increasing production, pumping plans).

    • Help with oversupply/forceful letdown to keep feeding comfortable for both mom and baby.

    • Address nipple pain, cracks, blisters, or bleeding.

    • Support with mastitis, engorgement, plugged ducts, and thrush.

    • Troubleshoot with babies who are sleepy at the breast, not gaining weight, or refusing the breast.

    • Support for tongue tie, lip tie, or oral motor issues that affect feeding.

    • Teach hand expression and efficient pumping.

    • Guide parents on storing breast milk safely.

    • Help with paced bottle feeding and combo feeding (breast + bottle).

    • Provide support with gentle weaning (for mom’s body and baby’s emotions).

    • Help with return-to-work planning.

    • Offer emotional encouragement through the entire breastfeeding journey.

  • Lisa offers classes once a month for couples prenatally to learn about and prepare for breastfeeding after birth.

    Lisa Dooley, RN, IBCLC

I have been a Registered Nurse for 18 years, including having worked in labor and delivery for 5 years. I found a love for helping moms with latching infants right after giving birth and breastfeeding in general so I decided to pursue my International Board Certification and have been practicing as an IBCLC for 15 years, working in L&D, Mother/Baby, NICU and outpatient settings. I enjoy helping moms on their breastfeeding journey and watching mom and baby grow together, whether exclusively pumping, breastfeeding or breast and formula feeding. There are many ways to feed your baby and I believe in supporting moms in how they choose to do so.

I was born and raised in the Roanoke area and have been married for 38 years, have 3 children and 7 grand babies, I love going to our little country church and having family time on Sundays, going to the beach whenever I can and shopping.

I look forward to supporting you!
